Aspherical Lens Processing: Difficult But Worth It
The continuously varying curvature of aspherical lenses makes them much more difficult to produce than traditional spherical ones. In order to overcome this challenge, Chineselens Optics employs three main approaches:
- Numerical Control Cooling Processing: This method consists of a number of careful steps like shaping, grinding, polishing and edging which are carried out at normal temperatures. Although time-consuming, it is good for making high-precision small batch aspheric lenses.
- Compression Molding: It involves softening optical glass then pressing it into an aspheric mold; hence being cheap. The molds need materials resistant to high temperature and should be machined precisely thereby limiting their usage in large scale productions runs only (molds must be made from materials that can withstand high temperatures).
- Injection Molding: This technique works best for plastic aspheres offering benefits such low weightiness; low costliness; capability for integrating mountings parts etcetera while accuracy is lower than other methods thus suitable for moderate quality large batch production run only (this method allows one create many identical copies quickly).
