Aspheric lenses are designed with a single element, which helps reduce the number of lenses found in multi-lens optical assemblies. In other words, unlike a traditional lens with a spherical front surface, an aspheric lens has a more complex front surface that gradually changes the curvature from the center of the lens to the outside of the lens edge.
